ISSUE #2 – MAY, 2016
What a few weeks we’ve been having here at Begbie HQ. Janice Forsyth and the lovely people at the culture show have only gone and picked our new record “It’s Just the Way” as it’s single of the week. Our new banger is played every day on BBC Radio Scotland, incredible! Even more incredible is the fact that the tune isn’t even released yet! The new record will be available to download from the 28 th of May. We have been busy in the rehearsal room working on a new set for our Headline show at King Tuts on the 11 th of May. We have a real connection with the venue as it’s a place that always brings out the best in us as a band, we always try to go that extra mile with shows at Tuts and this show will be no different. With the new single, inevitably, comes a new video. We are super excited to be working with Shootback Productions again on the new video. Stuart at Shootback does amazing really amazing work. Stuart is also a really good guy which always helps. If we’ve learned anything over the years it would be, there is no such thing as “too much of a good thing”. That’s certainly the case with us and Shootback. The new concept for the video marries into the theme of the single so well, something we always try to achieve with our videos. Music can be a pretty soulless place, bereft of any meaning, so we try to ensure all our works have a story behind it. “It’s Just The Way” is a call to arms to challenge what you see and hear. Don’t accept things at face value and certainly don’t accept things as “It’s Just The Way”. We have a voice and it’s about time we let others hear it.

Did you know that in the many years The Begbies have been a band, we have had ZERO local press coverage. We haven’t even seen a single local press agent at any of our shows. They haven’t even enquired as to how we are getting on. Actually think about that for a second. In the years we’ve been a band we’ve achieved a fair few accolades, not a peep from the local press. As I type this our new single is the “Track of the Week” on a national radio station. Later on this month our new single will be featured in a national newspaper and STILL the local press here won’t get off their lazy arses and help promote our scene. This isn’t just relevant to The Begbies. This is the same story for The Phantoms, Volka and Shvllows. In the past 3 weeks all of the bands I just mentioned have had some form of, sold out headline show, national Airplay or national press. You’d imagine in the tiny world of West Lothian that, that would grab some attention… apparently not! West Lothian Courier and The Herald and Post, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Get off your arse and get on the band wagon. You never know, it may help save your papers!
